Quick access to up-to-date information, files and applications, as well as opportunities for interactive exchange with colleagues around the world: these requirements should be met by the new intranet of an internationally operating crude steel producer.

The Group promised productivity increases, a more efficient work environment and improved collaboration opportunities. In addition, the use of modern enterprise social software was also intended to increase the attractiveness as an employer.

Initial situation

The company, with more than 210,000 employees worldwide, is committed to operating on the SharePoint Online platform under Office 365. The previous intranet solution Lotus Notes is to be replaced by a new implementation on SharePoint basis. The intranet presence is complemented by the SharePoint solution in this process, so that a hybrid operation on the old and the new platform is possible.

Solution strategy

Through the department “internal communication” a requirement analysis was carried out with the help of ShareGo. An iterative project methodology was then used. A prototype for the intranet was created, on the basis of which the implementation of the intranet could be completed in three iterations.

The iterations were realized with the use of SCRUM and the code management of the Team Foundation Server. The continuous integration was used under a staging environment.
